Quick answers about Boomerang

Hi! Your dental office sent you a link that opened (or tried to open) a voice conversation with an AI assistant. Here's what's going on.

What is this?

Your dental office uses Boomerang to help reschedule patients who haven't been in for a while. Instead of leaving voicemails or playing phone tag, they sent you a text with a link. When you tap it, you talk with an AI assistant for about 60–90 seconds about your appointment. The AI:

  • Knows your practice (your dentist, hours, services)
  • Can answer basic questions about your treatment
  • Can book you an appointment that works for you
  • Sends you a confirmation email

If it can't help, you can hang up at any time and call your office directly.

Is it really safe?

  • The call is recorded. You hear a disclosure before the call starts. The recording goes only to your dental office, never to anyone else.
  • The AI doesn't know personal medical details unless your office told it. It knows what procedure you're scheduled for and a general anxiety level — that's it. It doesn't even know your name until you say it.
  • Your information stays with your practice. We don't sell, share, or use your conversation for anything other than helping your office schedule you.
  • You can hang up anytime. Just tap the End Call button. No appointment will be booked unless you confirm one out loud.

Frequently asked

Who is "Maya" (or whatever name the AI uses)?

That's the AI assistant your practice picked. It's not a real person — it's a computer program with a voice. We tell you that up front; the AI also won't lie about being AI if you ask.

Why doesn't the AI know my name when the call starts?

For your privacy, the AI doesn't see your name in the system. When you say your name, it'll use it. This is intentional — we share the absolute minimum information with the AI provider that we need to.

What happens if I just don't tap the link?

Nothing automatic. After a few days the office might call you the old-fashioned way. The link expires after a while.

I tapped the link but nothing happened.

Make sure you're on an iPhone running iOS 14 or newer. The link opens a free, no-install "App Clip" that runs without downloading anything. If it doesn't open, call your dental office and they'll book you over the phone.

Can I see what the AI heard and said?

Yes — ask your dental office. They can pull the transcript and share it with you.

I'm uncomfortable with AI calls. Can I just talk to a human?

Absolutely. Hang up and call your office directly. Tell them you'd prefer to schedule by phone — they'll never use Boomerang with you again if you don't want them to.

Is this HIPAA-compliant?

Yes. Boomerang operates under a Business Associate Agreement with your dental practice. We follow HIPAA's requirements for protecting your health information.

What if the AI books me for the wrong time or procedure?

We're in early access (alpha) so things can go wrong. Always check your confirmation email and your dental office's records. If something looks wrong, call the office directly — the appointment is theirs to confirm, not ours.

Trouble with a call?

  • Bad audio / can't hear: hang up and tap the link again
  • AI seems confused: tell it clearly what you need, or hang up and call the office
  • Want to talk to a person: hang up and dial the office directly
